A master story-taller, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was best known for his fictional creation, “Sherlock Holmes”- one of the most admired and enduring characters in English fiction.
Yet, Doyle believed, his historical fiction, The White Company and Sir Nigel, had greater literary merit. The adventures of the skeptical scientist, Professor Challenger, as described in the science fiction stories, The Lost World and other Stories, also form a part of the present collection.
